Welcome To Maine By The Water
Welcome to Maine By The Water Vacation Rentals. Are you looking to sleep by the sea or wake by the lake? We offer both and will provide you with personal and friendly attention from the moment you contact us.
Experience Old Orchard Beach, celebrated as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
Our beach house is just 75 steps from the section of the 7 mile beach called ‘Grand Beach’. It is thought by all of the real estate gurus to be the most desirable location because of the fine sand, the gentle slope with no steep drop off and the wide expanse of beach available at low and high tide.
Our roof top deck at Beachwalk Four is a rare feature and our favorite place to enjoy morning coffee and happy hour. It’s always 5 o’clock somewhere!
For a more laid back setting, discover Lake Arrowhead, a crystal clear lake and the only trophy bass fishing lake in the state of Maine. Grand View 14 is centrally located, yet still near Maine’s beautiful coastline. It’s the perfect setting for your lakefront vacation of a lifetime.
Being a grandfathered property, we are lucky to have our lakefront home located only 50 feet from the water, with a gentle slope on the lakeside and a flat grass play area inside the circular drive on the driveway side. You’ll love the serenity of all the hidden coves on the Lake. The perfect start to a day is to paddle around in the kayaks watching the sunrise.
You can savor spectacular Maine sunsets and our unmatched hospitality at either location.
No matter what setting you choose, the best little beach house, (mere steps to a gleaming white sand beach) or lakefront splendor (in our spacious and inviting chalet) we know you are sure to return home refreshed and renewed after experiencing Maine By The Water, “the way life should be”.
Warning: You may never want to leave.
Maine has 65 lighthouses. If you can only visit one, we suggest Portland Headlight. This lighthouse is in a beautiful park setting with amazing views of the ocean and the city. Kids will love to explore the remnants of old forts that are on the grounds. Located in Fort Williams State Park in Cape Elizabeth, it is considered the “Granddaddy of all lighthouses,” and is one of the most visited and photographed lighthouses in the world. It was commissioned by George Washington and first lit in 1791. There is an onsite museum and ample parking. Portland Headlight was selected to appear in a Forever postage stamp series called New England Coastal Lighthouses. The stamp was issued July 13, 2013.Find Out More
Hard shell or soft shell? Mayo or butter? Steamed or grilled? If you are going to try Lobster, Southern Maine is the place to do it. Whether you want it right out of the ocean, steamed in a big pot of water or the no clean up way at a high end restaurant we can steer you in the right direction. Lobster salad, lobster rolls grilled lobster tails and the latest trend, Lobster Mac-n-Cheese. The Clam Shack in Kennebunkport wins best lobster roll and was a fan favorite in New York City’s lobster rumble. It has the meat of a 1 pound lobster and is served on a slightly sweet hamburger style bun from a local bakery. Bite Into Maine, a food truck usually positioned at Fort Williams Park serves 6 kinds of Lobster rolls including classic, curry, and wasabi.Find Out More
Not ready to let go of summer? Fall is the new summer. There is no better time than the fall to visit Maine. The temperatures are just right and most of the tourists have headed south. Lots of festivals and agricultural fairs abound, some are one day affairs and others last a week. Not to be missed is the annual toast to Maine’s culinary arts, Harvest on the Harbor, It involves incredible seafood, wine tastings and an array of visiting celebrity chefs. Our favorite event is the Grand Tasting, with its starry setting in the Ocean View Room of the Ocean Gateway Pier. The Maine lobster chef of the year competition is one of the most popular events. And, oh yes, there’s the wicked awesome fall foliage. Everyone asks,” when’s the best time for peak color?”Find Out More
Maine does a great job of turning our crystal clear water into mighty fine beer. Maine has the fourth highest concentration of micro-breweries in the country. There are more than 40 craft breweries, dozens less than an hour from Grand View 14 and Beachwalk Four. Steve’s favorites are Dirigo Brewing in Biddeford and Gneiss Brewing Company in Limerick. Dirigo is located in the historic Riverdam Mill and overlooks the legendary Saco Falls. Gneiss, pronounced Nice (the G is silent) is just a few miles from the Lake House. We also recommend Maine Beer Tours. It’s a laid back all inclusive tour, which includes transportation, snacks, beer samples and tons of fun.Find Out More
What our guests are saying
We stayed here for 3 nights in April, with our daughters. Everything was as advertised, Valancy and Steve are great hosts, they did everything to make us feel at home! House is great - but we spent most of our time outdoor - really "working" the grill and the fire pit! We also did a bit of a hike in the surroundings, this is a great, quiet area, perfect for relaxation. One of the highlights of our week-end was the vinyl collection - more than 200 records - our daughter really enjoyed discovering David Bowie and other singers. Thank you for a great experience!
Wonderful week-end by the lake!
Very well appoint home on Arrowhead with Steve and Valancy being great hosts. They took the time to introduce us to the house upon arrival, very much appreciated. The home had everything you need to make you feel right at home. Very private location on the lake to sit out and enjoy a glass of wine after being out kayaking most of the day. Looking forward to returning again this season for a longer stay to enjoy more of the area. Can't wait.
Perfect home on Arrowhead to spend our 40th Aniversary
This whole experience was wonderful. We booked this beautiful home very last minute because the house we originally booked had canceled on us 3 days before our trip due to construction issues. But in the mist of things Steve and Valancy were over and above to accommodate my family in such short notice . They were very understanding and attentive to our needs. We arrived very late on the first night due to Boston traffic and Steve was there with a smile on his face welcoming us to our new slice of paradise by the lake for the next couple days. The house itself is absolutely beautiful the pictures don't give it justice , beautiful cathedral ceilings with sky lights to bring in the light, followed by a very well applied spacious kitchen . the house has two fireplaces one in the main living room and one in the master bedroom which also has its own deck. There was also a wood stove hot tub that my mom mentioned that she was interested in using so Steve was out there every hour feeding it wood just to accommodate her needs ,( over and above our expectations). The house is literally walking steps to the lake in which at night u can see almost every star when you sit out on the dock. Me and my family traveled up there originally for a fundraiser and had mentioned it to the owners and it was also so nice of them to attend . the whole experience was just truely wonderful and brought my family great joy and happiness thanks to the wonderful owners we truely felt we were at home away from home.
A home away from home
Great house has everything you need. House was clean , loved sitting on deck and found my happy place just sitting on dock. Fished every morning with my boat caught 6-8 bass. Wife liked the out door hot tub. The 60 thinks to do helped out. Valancy was very nice greeted us when we arrived and showed us how everything work.
Great way to spend our 20th anniversary .
Thanks so much
Jane and Chris
This is our second year coming to the lovely house at Lake Arrowhead. What a place to unwind and let the stress melt away. Everything you could need is here for a great vacation; beautiful home, lovely grounds and gardens, water right outside your door, a dock , an assortment of watercraft, and the fishing is super! Our hosts make it feel like you are coming home to your family's summer place. All the comforts of home, but in a beautiful lakeside setting. We watched the eagles from the deck as well as from our boat, enjoyed the lovely sunsets, went shopping at the outlets when it rained one day, and just thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The little touches that the owners provide make this place a real treat to stay at. Can't wait until next year!
Another Wonderful Vacation
My fiance and I were lucky enough to spend 4 nights around New Years vacationing here. It was warm, quite and peaceful with incredible views and privacy. The wood-fired hot was amazing. The house was clean, organized and comfortable, and packed with information about local attractions and the surrounding area. Steve and Valancy are probably the nicest, and most considerate home owners you could meet. They take a lot of pride in the place, and make you feel invited and welcome. We would love to come back and stay here again!
The gf and I didn't have any commitments for Turkey Day so we took to HomeAway/VRBO for a fun/romantic getaway and stumbled upon this amazing place. Simple and functional the Grandview lake house was everything we sought. Disconnected from society (but the wifi was key!) and romantic (staring at the stars from the wood-fired hot tub was awesome!). Despite the fact that a heavy snowfall knocked the power out on the first night (we crashed with friends nearby) Steve and Valancy had the place ready for us first thing the next morning (and reimbursed us for the missed night!). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to coming back and/or checking out their Beach House!
I am so glad I found this rental on VRBO. This week has been amazing. We fished, used the pedal boat(kids loved this)and spent an afternoon at the rope swing. Even I did it!
Came across so many great people here. We traveled to Portland to see the lighthouse and ate a lobster roll at the Lobster Shack. The Lobster from LandLocked that you suggested were so so good. On the one rainy day, we ventured to NH and then had family game night. Our visit to Old Orchard Beach was so much fun, too. Thank-you for sharing your home with us. The house is just perfect, so clean and had everything we needed. Sean and I felt like we have known you both for years. You both are such kind and genuine people. We will be back. Give Samson a hug from the kids.
Great house and perfect location
We had a wonderful week packed full of memories! It started with a bang as sat on the dock our first night and were surrounded with five different firework shows on the lake. It was awesome! We enjoyed nice relaxing days on the lake, canoeing, kayaking, going out on the pedal boat and just sitting on the decks reading or playing games. We had fun at the clubhouse where we played basketball, tennis, went swimming (inside and out), played ping pong and air hockey. Inspired by Valancy's list of things to do, we took a few day trips to Shaw's Ridge Farm, Portland, Splashtown and StoryLand. It was a balanced week of being on the go and just chilling out. We had a wonderful time in Maine and were grateful for how gracious Steve and Valancy were.
This lake house is perfect and so are the people who own it! We stayed at the home with our two children (ages 5 & 9) and could not have been happier with our overall experience. Steve and Valancy provided exceptional communication prior to and during our stay and were at the home to greet us when we arrived. The view was gorgeous, and the amenities enhanced our stay. We especially loved the pedal boat and kayaks, and our son had a great time fishing from the boats and docks. The 60 things to do list provided a wonderful foundation for making plans, and we enjoyed everything from strawberry picking to amazing ocean views to delicious ice cream based on the suggestions made. The house has everything you could possibly want including a wood-fired hot tub, fire pit, hammock, dock for fishing, and swing set. Our entire family loved every minute of our stay, and we look forward to returning to this house. We would not want to stay anyplace else!
My boyfriend and I couldn't be happier that we found this lakehouse! We were looking for a quiet getaway from the hustle and bustle and that's exactly what we got. The lakehouse was extremely well taken care of, had modern amenities while still keeping a homey feel. The location made it easy for us to drive over to Portland, North Conway, and Sebago for some hiking. The kayaks and canoe were great for exploring the lake, and we even used the fishing equipment a few times. Our favorite part though, was the wood-fired hot tub. Extremely relaxing and a great way to do some stargazing. Valancy and Steve made us feel right at home from the beginning and were available to answer any questions we had throughout the trip. I would highly recommend this rental to anyone looking for a quiet getaway with all the amenities! We will definitely be looking to come back come summertime.
Wonderful week away!
Thank-you for both making us feel “right at home”. Everything we could possibly need was here and your home was more than what we imagined it could be! The 60 things to do was such a help and we were never bored. Don’t worry, we followed the “Lake House Rules”. We danced, we sang, we laughed(a lot)and our daughter even made it into the Lake. We did plenty of “chillaxin” as our kids would say. Rain or shine, our son was fishing from sunup to sundown. Plenty of fish to catch. We thank you so much for sharing your home. We will always remember our slice of Maine paradise and your hospitality. As our son put it, “ I think they are the nicest people I’ve ever met”. We hope to see you again. If you are ever in Jersey, let us know, we’ll take you out for a boat ride on the creek. Maine rocks!

Fabulous Home in Maine for All
The photos accurately reflected the rental's appearance and amenities. The listing description regarding the location were accurate as well. The property was extremely clean and well maintained. The owners were always available for questions and made us feel so welcomed during our stay. I would recommend this property to all my friends and family. The home owners gave us a 60 + Things To Do list before our arrival. It gave you many options for things to do when leaving the cottage on day trips. We enjoyed the lake most days, just fishing and being on the water. It's a beautiful lake. We felt like we were home. You will not be disappointed if you choose this cottage and lake for a vacation.
Lake Arrowhead Cottage, North Waterboro, ME
Although we were only able to get four days for vacation, we could not have imagined a more perfect spot to spend it in. The house is on a back country road in Maine, surrounded by locals and trees and lake. From the moment we arrived Steve and Valancy were welcoming, unbelievably friendly and made us feel like we were family. Steve was thoughtful enough to get the outdoor, wood-heated jacuzzi-tub warming by the time we got there and being able to soak after our dinner and half-day of travel made the perfect end to a great beginning. The house is decorated in such a way that it feels like you're at home and not visiting a museum or a stuffy hotel. Everything in the house can be used - so long as the property is respected - and having free range of the washer and dryer, full kitchen, TV's, air-hockey-table, record player (and a ton of fantastic albums) was more than we could have expected. The house is wired so that the record player can actually be heard throughout the house and outside on the private deck. At night you can shut off the outside music so as not to disturb the neighbors -- although when we were there they weren't home so it felt like we had our own private island. On the second day, Steve and Valancy were kind enough to teach us how to kayak -- neither of us had ever done so before -- and we took them downstream to an island in the middle of the lake and a rope swing that Steve recommended. (There was also a canoe and paddle-boat available that we could have taken out into the water.) All four nights that we were there we built a fire in the pit in the front yard, soaked in the jacuzzi and on one occasion enjoyed a delightful bottle of champagne that Valancy gave us as a "welcome" present. Although there is a huge wood pile next to the house, we did our best to use only what was necessary and recommend that everyone do the same so that all future renters can enjoy the same warmth that we were able to. There was one day when Steve and Valancy were there doing yard work, but we were blown away by how unintrusive they were on our privacy and how utterly respectful they were of our space. We honestly cannot say enough good things about this couple or their amazing property. Whether you're looking for a weekend-away or a longer vacation (like the one we hope to take next summer) we HIGHLY recommend the lake house. -Shira and Ilya
If you're impressed with the pictures of the house just wait til you go inside!
This was the best decision we made for a vacation, renting a house. This House, this property was awesome, beautiful, well appointed and so comfy & cozy. The accomodations were perfect. The view is something we will never forget and one of a kind.
The owners made everything so easy and very accomodating with tons of information of places of interest, things to do. We enjoyed the fall foliage even better being here in Maine at this property.
Looking forward to a future visit.
You won't be disappointed in renting this property.

Picking Grandview 14 from the many Maine vacation choices was one of my best decisions. It was such a peaceful experience in the warm, cozy home with the lake right outside your door. We even saw a bald eagle while drinking coffee on the dock one morning. The owners are the kind of people you'd like as friends and they gave us a warm welcome, including a bottle of cider. Steve was nice enough to give us a ride in their boat too. We enjoyed kayaking and canoeing and all the other things Maine offers, which were not too far away and when it was raining, which unfortunately it did, we were happy to relax in comfort inside. The only bad thing was we had to leave...thanks, Steve and Valancy!
Perfect relaxing getaway!
We had a wonderful week here. As soon as we had seen the pictures on the website, we knew we wanted to stay here and we were not disappointed. The house is in the most beautiful setting imaginable and we were entranced by the views. We have two daughters aged 19 and 16 and they really enjoyed themselves too. We did not know whether to stay put and swim and kayak or simply sunbathe on the deck or go out and explore Maine so we did some of each on alternate days. Steve and Valancy provide a list of suggested things to do and amongst others from the list, we enjoyed lobster at Cape Elizabeth, a boat trip from Portland on Casco Bay Ferries and Bowdoin College Museum of Art. Closer to home, we sampled fesh cooked lobster from the nearby pond, onion rings at Vandy's and breakfast at the Peppermill.
The house is very comfortable and well equipped and spotlessly clean. Steve and Valancy welcomed us warmly and showed us round and we felt that if we had needed any advice or run into a problem, they would have been very happy to help. They have put a
lot of thought into creating such a lovely property and we would definitely recommend it. We thank them for their hospitality.
What a wonderful time we had here! My boys loved the playground, fishing, swimming, etc etc! They loved it so much they asked if we could move here. Great spacious house, with all the accomodations a family could need. Owners were so gracious and helpful, they even provide a list of things to do in the area. I think we were able to accomplish 13 altogether. Need to comeback to complete the list!
Our Maine Getaway
Great property! Plenty of fun for our family with 2 girl, - ages 3 and 6, and 2 boys - ages 14 and 16. The house was immaculate, and Steve and Valancy are great hosts. Great fishing - more than 100 fish - right from the dock! This was the perfect place for our family. We would recommend it to anyone. This particular property is very quiet and the sunsets were remarkable. We especially enjoyed the wood-fired hot tub. Nothing better than a cool Maine night spent under the stars soaking in a steaming hot tub. To anyone we would say "Stay at this place, you will not be disappointed."
Happy PA Travelers
This place is a must stay! Our first great experience was contacting the owners. They are wonderful people and will do everything they can to ensure your stay is "wicked awesome" (a local slang). The lakehouse is much larger than we expected, with plenty to keep our 4 year old son and 15 month old daughter busy. The owners even left age appropriate gifts for our kiddos and a beverage for us. The drive to Old Orchard, Portland, Ogunquit and Kennebunk beaches are all nearby. Our favorite was Ogunquit, because there were lots of people there, lots of beach for the kiddos and some shops for us. Stop at the Portland Headlight (lighthouse commissioned by George Washington) and do your souvenir shopping there. The prices are lower than other places and all monies made support the lighthouse. At the lake house, we all relaxed in the wood burning hot tub, my son and I caught as much fish as we wanted, the kiddos played on the playground areas on the property, we took the row boat out for a peaceful tour of lake arrowhead and slept in the hammock. We cooked lobster for the first time and it was incredible. There were so many moments captured and so much for us to do. We have traveled all over the U.S. and this was the most relaxing, fun vacation we have ever had. We took the sunset cruise from Portland and were entertained by a local Junior High drama club. The record collection there (real vinyl) is incredible and we all danced to good ole rock-n-roll. TVs in two rooms make it nice for dual entertainment on rainy afternoons. You've got to have pizza from the local parlor, eat onion rings from Vandys and have barbeque and pastries made by "the Steve" (he has a passion for his cooking and baking) at Raven's Hill Bakery. If you choose this place for your vacation you'll have a great time - totes fa` shotes (another local slang)!! The people of Maine are wonderful. We WILL be going back. We thank ya'll kindly for reading our review.
The Morrow's - Texans in the Maine Land
My best friend and I arrived in Old Orchard Beach from a very busy job in California, in need of "rest and relaxation". Old Orchard Beach is perfect. First of all it has one of the few sandy beaches in Maine. The town is a mile from the house and the house is footsteps away from the beach. The house has everything you need and was so clean and inviting. The owners are so kind and responsive. Steve actually called us to see if we wanted the window air conditioning put in. Our only very minor disappointment was that the fireplace is a nonworking fire place.....we didn't even notice.
This is a perfect Maine coast getaway....close to Portland if you need a little city "fix"
Charming, cozy and very clean!!!
Went with my best friend on our annual girls' trip and decided to try something different this year and rent a cottage. It was our first experience with VRBO, and it was perfect! We loved morning coffee on the roof deck (though the stairs were a little too steep for us to try nightly cocktails!) We went in early May, just before I guess tourist season starts, but I'd imagine the location is perfect because it's far enough away from the main drag to be quiet but close enough that you can walk. I hope to return with my husband and kids.
Perfect girlfriend getaway!
We truly enjoyed our stay in this clean and comfy cottage. Listening to the waves while laying in bed at night was a great perk. The owners definitely take measures to supply all the necessities you need so you feel that you are at your own home. They also take the time to give you a list of 60 Things to Do when at OOB. This was a great guide for us!! The roof top deck was wonderful for morning coffee and afternoon cocktails. The proximity to the beach was perfect! We walked the beach every morning to collect sand dollars and in the afternoon the beach is never crowded like locations closer to the pier. We rented bikes as well and loved the proximity of the cottage to the (approximately 1.5 mile) shops, restaurants, amusement parks, pier, etc. We highly recommend this cottage to future OOB vacationers. We will be back again someday for sure!
Great Beach Cottage
This cozy beach house was exactly what we were looking for when planning this year's vacation. It was a 30 second walk to the beach which allowed us to easily get to and from with our gear and two young kids and we were close enough to walk back to use the kitchen for meals. The beach house was close enough to town to walk (even with the kids) but far enough away to have some privacy. The rooftop deck was great for meals and had a great view of the beach and the house was close to some really great local attractions for kids. The owners provided a lot of hospitality too. We would highly recommend this location!
Great location for a beach getaway!
The home is very well maintained. The easy access to the beach makes things much easier when you have little children. The usage of space is very unique as it gives you much more space. ie. the reading nook upstairs. Overall we were very pleased with our stay.
My wife and I took our 18 month old daughter up to this vacation home for our first family vacation and we did not want to leave when it was time to check out. Valancy takes pride in our house and checked in periodically to make sure we were enjoying our stay and if there was anything we needed. It was such a luxury to have the path to the beach 50 feet away from the front door and made it conveinient to come back to the house if we forgot something. The house was clean and updated and we tried to leave it in the same shape it was given to us in. We would recommend this house to any family looking to create some magical memories in Old Orchard Beach.
Couldn't Imagine a better 1st Family Vacation
We stayed in this fabulous little cottage for a week in late October and it was incredible. The cottage is very clean and well equipped. We didn't want for anything and when we did have a small issue with the cable TV, Steve and Valancy were just a quick phone call away (they even took our call during the World Series-Yeah Red Sox!). The location is absolutely perfect and the beach is so close that if you open the windows at night you can hear the ocean! We took several early morning walks (ok I use the word "we" lightly as really my boyfriend took several walks while I slept in in the very comfortable bed). There are also plenty of things to do within just a short driving distance (Kennebunkport, Camden, Portland-really good restaurants), Ogunquit, Wells, Portsmouth, etc). This was definitely one of our favorite vacations and favorite spots so I expect to be a repeat visitor to this lovely cottage.
Fantastic Little Cottage
My husband and I spent a week in this perfect cottage. It was exceptionally clean, tidy, and very well stocked, had everything we needed and more. We had a fantastic week in Maine. Lots to do...we visited Saco, Portland, Bath, Kennebunkport, Camden/Rockport, Wiscasset and other little towns along the way. The owners Valancy & Steve are fantastic. They were only a phone call away and more than willing to answer any questions and offer advice on where to go and EAT!!!! Lots of great restaurants within a 30 minute drive. I would highly recommend a stay.
Thank you so much for a memorable stay.
One of our best vacations!
First I would like to say that the pictures shown are true to reality. This small chalet was very quaint, extremely well kept, and clean. The bar has been set very high for my next VRBO Rental..the organization, attention to details (extra AA Batteries for the TV remote), overall appeal is just adorable. Valancy and Steve the owners take pride in this little place, not a scratch on any walls...you would think that it is painted between guests, LOL...
It is approximately 50 feet to the beach with a another house between this chalet and the morning sunrise. There is a Captains ladder in the bedroom which gives access to the rooftop deck which was enjoyed on several occasions.
Overall we loved our stay. It was close enough to the centre of OOB to walk, yet far enough to have tranquility and peace.
Cant wait to return to this gorgeous Beach and to lovely dinners in Portland.
A small piece of Paradise!!
When you decide to rent a vacation home instead of staying in more traditional surroundings such as Inns and Hotels, you are expected to place a lot of trust in the accuracy of the description and pictures posted by the homeowners. This is even more true when you are traveling (in our case from Wisconsin) to the coast of Maine in search of the perfect getaway. I can assure you most confidently that Beachwalk 4 not only met but greatly exceeded any and all of our expectations. From the charm of the home, to the proximity to the beach, to the great property owners Steve and Valancy, Beachwalk 4 is a place everyone needs to consider for the perfect retreat when staying in the Old Orchard Beach area. You will not be disappointed. We had a marvelous time and look forward to the next time we get an opportunity to return. Thanks Steve and Valancy for sharing your home.
The Perfect Retreat
